The Choir of St. John's Elora is one of Canada's premiere professional ensembles dedicated to sacred choral music. Active since the mid 1980s, the choir leads weekly 11 a.m. Sunday worship as well as monthly Evensong and seasonal services. The choir has toured both nationally and internationally, been featured on several commercial recordings, and regularly offers concerts, workshops, and collaborative liturgies with other churches both in Elora and throughout Ontario.
Auditions for the choir and the substitute singer list are available by contacting Director of Music Patrick Murray.
St. John's Volunteer Choir meets weekly on Thursday mornings for rehearsals and helps lead worship at the 9 a.m. Sunday service every other week. Membership is open to anyone interested; music reading skills are helpful, but previous choral experience is not required. Interested singers may contact Director of Music Patrick Murray to join.
Compline, or Night Prayer, is one of the oldest liturgies in the Christian church. The Compline Choir meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. to rehearse ahead of an 8 p.m. service, focusing on a repertoire of chant and Renaissance polyphony. Commitment to the choir is flexible and a draw for many experienced amateur singers already active in other community and church choirs in the Waterloo-Wellington region. Contact Director of Music Patrick Murray to join the Compline email list to be notified of upcoming services.
The Elora Children’s Choir is a community choral ensemble for children ages 7+ on Monday evenings. Directed by Kate Wright, the choir provides a supportive place for young singers to learn music-reading and musicianship skills through a variety of music, and performs several times each term both at the church and in the Elora-Fergus community. Music is primarily secular, and all are welcome! For information or to register, contact elorachildrenschoir@gmail.com.
The Song Circle is a casual drop-in singing group for fellowship and well-being, meeting Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Led from the ukulele by Stan Litch, the group sings songs familiar and friendly. Lyrics are provided and requests are welcome!
